Sometimes it just comes down to what you have to do. I mean, you're already sleeping on a couch in the den, right? My husband and I made the decision to sleep in separate rooms a couple of years ago mainly because of snorning and sleep preferences. I like to read myself to sleep and he just likes to turn off the lights and sleep. It felt awkward at first but now we're both very happy with the arrangement. I still keep my clothes in the master bedroom where he sleeps. At our age, sleep is very, very important to our good health. Why don't you just suggest a trial period of sleeping in separate rooms and see how it goes?

I started sleeping on the couch years ago for different reasons than you. Then at one point in time, I prepared an extra room with a bed as a guest room. Right after that, I started sleeping in the guest room instead of the couch...always commenting on how well I slept, not having to sleep on the couch any more...eventually, it just became "my room"...I decorated it and painted it and that's the way it is now. We moved and we both just picked our own rooms...we both like it that way now.
