Hi, I just clicked on this diary randomly while updating my own, and I wanted to urge you not to declaw your cat. For a more informed analysis and some alternatives, I recommend this link: http://www.declawing.com/

The only problem we had with our cats was that they would occasionally claw a hole in a screen... only one of the 5 cats I've lived with clawed furniture... a spray bottle with water will keep that from happening, and is a much better alternative to declawing. A cat needs its claws for defense if it accidentally meets a dog...

I can't "do" cats at all. I end up wheezing bad enough to need the ER. I agree about the de-clawing. There must be alternatives.

Sounds heavenly! Chime me in for the "No" to de-clawing. Aside from being painful and having risk of infection/complications, it's really quite crippling to a cat's ability to leap and balance. The occasional spritz from a squirt bottle if she starts to claw furniture is all it takes. ~LA
