No. They already worked it out to accomodate you not being there. The day is now yours. I think it's optional on your end.

I agree with Maryellen.. they made plans for you to be gone all day. The fact that they had to work harder to cover is irrelevant. What do you think any of them would do in the same circumstance??

I don't know for sure, but I would think that as everyone else said...the day is yours. You were on Jury Duty---that was your day. Jusr because you got dismissed earlier than you might have, doesn't mean you should go into work. Maybe they will call you back to Jury Duty. Your are committed for the day to this task and no other. Just my opinion.

Absolutely not! I don't think it's any different that taking a personal day off for anything else. I think your coworkers may have been a bit green around the gills!

I say no, but you better check your employee handbook.

(Banging head on desk to be rid of flashbacks.) THIS is exactly why I opted out to starve making my piddly living on my own rather than being certain of a paycheck but having to deal with that kind sniping, penny-ante grade school bullsh*t. Don't those hens have business of their own to mind? What a tempest over something that isn't a) any of their concern, b) is no biggie in the grand scheme, c) involves exactly what? Two hours of on the clock time? Good lord, do those nosy biddies monitor everybody's bathroom breaks too to make sure nobody spends an extra 30 seconds wiping her butt? So sorry for you, my friend, to have to spend your day with that crew of petty busybodies. ~LA

I went home but got docked. I worked retail and it was February one of the slowest times of the year. Don't know how they knew or if they did but our benefits were't that great. Mangers were expected to do jury duty and go in at night! Husband's job has a bunch of men who go running to the boss like a pack of babies. BF is a nurse and same deal sometimes. People need to grow up.

It depends on the employer I would think. Anytime I have been on jury duty, the company I worked for would pay me for the day, but I then had to sign over to them my check from the court for serving (which was like $25.00 or some nonsense) It'll depend on your company policy I suppose. If I was you....I would have headed home!
